Justice Gang: Superman 2025's team (and why it isn't the Justice League)
Share
The Justice Gang is the team funded by Maxwell Lord in the 2025 film: Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific, then Metamorpho. It is not the Justice League. In this article you will find who is on the roster, who pays for it, what the team actually does on screen, why Gunn chose that name, and what sets it apart from the League. By the end, you will know which individual profile to send a reader to, without rewriting three biographies.

Why “Gang” and not League
The name is in the film, not only in the interviews. Guy Gardner claims it as his own. Rex Mason, at the end, says he thinks it sounds cool. This is not a historic comics title: it is a DCU name, a little mocking, that already says this team does not yet carry the weight of the Justice League.
James Gunn answered the theory that “this is the start of the League”: you can say that, but you should not believe it will happen tomorrow. The members came together after seeing what the Man of Steel was doing, not the other way around. Kal-El does not sit at that table. Krypto does not either: the dog belongs to the hero, not to the LordTech roster.
Keeping the word Gang is a way of refusing to cannibalize the League file. Here we are talking about a sponsored trio, in a single film, with a fourth member arriving in the last reel. Everything else is slate speculation, not this article.
The trio, then Metamorpho
| Alias | Identity | Portrayed by | Role in the group |
|---|---|---|---|
| Green Lantern | Guy Gardner | Nathan Fillion | Ring, ego, spokesman for the name |
| Hawkgirl | Kendra Saunders | Isabela Merced | Nth-metal wings, mace, memory of past lives |
| Mister Terrific | Michael Holt | Edi Gathegi | T-Spheres, strategy, the calmest of the three |
| Metamorpho | Rex Mason | Anthony Carrigan | Periodic-table elements; late-film recruit |
The first three already have their pages: Guy Gardner, from 1968 to Fillion, Hawkgirl / Kendra Saunders, Mister Terrific / Michael Holt. This article does not redo their origins. It says how they hold together: Gardner talks too much, Holt calculates, Kendra hits. Merced has said that Gunn does not show all of Kendra — Thanagar, the past lives, that still has to wait.
Metamorpho comes in at the end. Gunn confirmed it: Guy says he is in, pending Maxwell Lord's stamp. Hawkgirl offers him the seat after he has switched against Luthor. It is not Kal-El who joins the Gang. It is Rex.
Maxwell Lord and LordTech money
Sean Gunn plays Maxwell Lord, the sponsor. Nathan Fillion boiled the idea down: how a superhero pays the rent. Corporate sponsorship is the answer. LordTech puts up the money, the team steps in. Maxwell is not on the field with the combat trio; he appears, and the film leaves him more as a work in progress than as a fully told arc.
This is not Lex Luthor. Luthor wants to control the story and the planet. Lord wants a team with his name on it, useful and sellable. Two billionaires, two separate files. Mixing up LordTech and LuthorCorp is missing the conflict of interest in the newborn DCU: the solar hero on one side, the contracted metahumans on the other.
We do not credit Maxwell with the Checkmate of the comics, nor with a Wonder Woman arc. The 2025 film does not show enough of either. The article stops where the screen stops.
What the team does in the film
The trio steps into the story's geopolitical conflict — Boravia / Jarhanpur — where the Man of Steel is already implicated. They are not his soldiers. They are another answer, more institutional, to the same crisis. Mister Terrific is the one who opens doors that brute force cannot kick in; Hawkgirl and Guy hold the sky.
They help bring down Luthor's apparatus and pull Metamorpho out of the pocket prison. This is not a five-logo team movie. It is a film about Kal-El, with a Gang that already exists, without him, before him, beside him. Corenswet does not become its leader. That is the point.
How it relates to the Justice League
The Justice League in the comics is a table, a satellite, a founding myth. The Gang is three people plus a check. Gunn did not say “you have just seen the League”. He said you could see a beginning in it, later.
Hence the internal linking, and not a merger of URLs. Guy has his page. Hawkgirl has her page. Terrific has his page. The League has its pillar. The Gang has this one. Recreating “Justice League 2025” here would cannibalize the hub and the three profiles. The word missing on screen is League. We leave it missing.
The Green Lantern / Man of Steel alliance is another file, older than Fillion. Gardner does not sum up the whole Corps. Likewise, Hawkgirl does not sum up Thanagar. The Gang is a 2025 contract, not the history of the Corps or of the Thanagarians.
After 2025: Peacemaker, and what comes next
Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner and Maxwell Lord reappear in Peacemaker season 2, for a recruitment interview with Christopher Smith. Terrific is not in that scene. The interview goes badly: this is not the Gang being absorbed into the Peacemaker universe, it is a crossover. We do not turn him into an eleventh member until something more is shown.
The film follow-up is the Gods and Monsters chapter, with the other films on the list. No Justice Gang movie date. No League logo announced. Until Gunn has shown the table, this page remains that of a four-person team, paid by Lord, born on screen in 2025.
Three common myths about the Justice Gang
- It is the Justice League of the DCU. No. Gunn accepts the idea of a seed, not of a League already in place. Kal-El is not a member.
- Metamorpho is not on the team. Yes he is. Gunn said so after release: he joins at the end of the film, Guy signs off, Maxwell Lord still holds the stamp.
- It is Superman's team, like the Super Friends. No. LordTech funds it. The Man of Steel acts beside them, not above them.

The name, the private sponsor, Kal-El's absence from the table, and Gunn himself: you can see a beginning in it, not a League for tomorrow.
Who funds the Justice Gang?
Maxwell Lord, played by Sean Gunn, via LordTech. Nathan Fillion boiled the idea down: sponsorship pays the superhero's rent.

Guy, Hawkgirl and Maxwell Lord appear in Peacemaker season 2 for a recruitment beat. No team movie has been announced under that name.
Conclusion
For the faces, the three profiles still hold: Terrific, Gardner, Hawkgirl, as well as Metamorpho. For the other camp, Luthor. For the frame, the Gunn era and the 2025 cast.
The League will wait for its own scene. Until it is there, the Gang has this URL, and only this one.
